Winter School: How Should Bias Be Visualised?
14 January 2021 at 1.30-3.30 CET
Task
The purpose of this activity is to discuss approaches that search engines can use for addressing biases in the search results. At the session, we have discussed 8 prototypes for addressing biases in search results:
Your task is to assess these prototypes. You will be working in a group to discuss which system you prefer to implement and to discuss how these tools influence your search tasks.
You will need to fill in the following two questionnaires:
- Before you start your activity, please complete the demographic questionnaire (individual questionnaire).
- Please discuss and evaluate the systems in your group and write your answers in the group questionnaire. Only one questionnaire needs to be submitted for each group.
Discussion points
Please discuss in your group the following three questions:
- How would each approach influence your information seeking task?
- How would you rank the four prototypes in each approach?
- What approach would you prefer to implement in a search engine?
